Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect from our first session?
In our first session, we will spend time getting to know each other. This will include expectations of therapy and treatment goals, identifying and exploring the history of the issues you want to work on, and any questions you may have regarding the therapy process. It is my hope that you feel seen, heard, and supported in your process in this initial session. If we feel that we would not be a good fit, I have a wonderful network of colleagues that I would be happy to refer you to. All sessions, including the first, are 50 min in length, however longer sessions can be requested.
What is your therapeutic approach?
In my work with individuals, my approach is based in attachment style or psychodynamic therapy where I explore past wounds, most often in childhood, and how they inform the way we live and relate in adulthood. We can unknowingly be playing out patterns that we learned from childhood in our current relationships. The problem comes when what worked to help us survive when we were younger is no longer effective for thriving relationships. For that reason, I like to utilize the therapy relationship as an avenue to heal relational hurt, break ineffective coping patterns, and explore new ways of relating to others and ourselves.
What is a free 20 min phone consultation?
The 20 minute free phone consultation gives you an opportunity to ask any questions about my practice and myself that you may have. We also use this time to determine if we are a good fit and if I am the right therapist for you. If we are not are good fit, I am happy to refer to one of my colleagues.
What is your fee?
I am an out of network provider and charge $150 for 50 min sessions. I do have limited spots available for a sliding scale upon request.
Do you take insurance?
I am an out of network provider and do not directly take insurance. Most PPO plans allow you to see an out of network therapist. You can call your insurance for verification. I will then provide you with a “Superbill” that provides all the information necessary for reimbursement. I’m happy to address any questions you may have on this process.
Do you integrate faith into therapy?
All of my clients come from diverse backgrounds with regard to faith, gender, culture, ethnicity, etc. Regardless of who my client is, my client’s values system is at the center of our work together. I only integrate my faith into the therapy process when requested by the client. I am comfortable and confident in working with any person regardless of their faith perspective. The focus of my work with my clients is on the concerns and challenges they bring in to therapy.
